Auto Intelligent joins Cooking with Cody Project

Since our relocation to Devon, we ae now proud to be assisting Cooking with Cody on their next project. They have recently purchased a retired Volvo Olympia double decker bus and are embarking on a mammoth conversion.

The conversion plans to turn the bus into a multifunctional cookery school, believed to be the first of its kind. The lower level will be a fully functioning kitchen, whilst the upper level will house a seating area, toilet and child's play area.

Powering the electric kitchen appliances will be made possible by housing four high power batteries connected to four 6kW invertors to provide a 240v system in a custom made compartment situated above the rear axle. Whilst the lighting will be powered by the vehicles 24v system. The batteries will be charged whilst the engine is running utilising a split charge system, with additional roof mounted solar panels to maintain a stable voltage whilst the bus is stationary.. To maintain a high level of safety, the 240v system will be automatically disabled whilst the bus is in motion,

Safety is of the utmost importance on this project so we have also several professionals on board

The interior layout and design is being carried out by Demi Keenan and her team at Demi Keenan Interiors

Fire safety advice has being given by Devon and Cornwall Fire service

Electrical safety and installation will be carried out by Dominic McCarty Electrical and his team

Vehicle safety checks being carried out by ourselves, with an recent message from Stagecoach Torquay who have expressed an interest in the project and after speaking with their engineering director, they are willing to assist wherever possible

Kitchen safety is being overlooked by Rehan Uddin from Bombay Express in Torquay

Members of Torbay council are assisting where possible to ensure the finished vehicle meets required legislation on all levels.

So far this project has gained steady momentum until an act of vandalism on Thursday evening saw damage to the bus estimated at approximately £2-3000 of damage.

Mike Trower made a short Facebook and Instagram video which has gone viral and new donations and offers of assistance have come flooding in from all areas.

Not only has this project featured on Russell Howards Good News on Sky, but also on BBC Spotlight,

Also assisting on the project are many local and national businesses and volunteers including a local graffiti artist who is painting the outside of the bus.

Once complete the cookery school will deliver lessons to young children, whilst also providing meals for homeless and vulnerable people in the area
